Case Study:
Redesigning a Vehicle Tracking System
The Issue
A small
towing service towed vehicles for three governmental entities, each of
which had different towing and storage charges. The company tracked the
towed vehicles and associated charges manually, which resulted in missed
or uncollected charges, and incomplete information on stored vehicles.
The Solution
BDT
studied existing records, and interviewed the owner to understand the
various towing and storage charges. BDT designed a computer-based system
for tracking towed vehicles and calculating associated towing and
storage charges by governmental entity. The new vehicle tracking system
included error control devices to ensure complete information for each
vehicle entered.
The Result
The
company was able to reduce dramatically the challenge of keeping the
various towing and storage charges straight. In addition, the new
vehicle tracking system improved the company's competitive edge and ability to bid on other towing contracts.
